I often get asked what type of Hypnotherapy I do and what a client should expect within one of my sessions. Just like other types of therapy, Hypnotherapy has many different versions and ways it can be conducted. In this post, I'm going to tell you exactly what type of Hypnotherapy I offer and what you can expect in a session with me.
My practice is primarily built on the principles of Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy.

What is Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy?
Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy is a modern, collaborative, and evidence-based approach that combines two powerful tools:
1. The Solution-Focused Approach: This is the core of our conversation. Instead of spending time analysing past problems and their origins, we focus on where you want to be and how we can get you there. We’ll spend our time exploring your desired future, identifying your strengths, and building on what is already working in your life. It’s a positive, forward-looking process that empowers you to create lasting change.
2. The Hypnotic Trance: This is the tool we use to reinforce these positive changes. In a state of deep relaxation and focused attention, your subconscious mind becomes more open and receptive to positive and beneficial suggestions. This allows us to quiet the conscious mind—the part of you that often overthinks and worries—and communicate directly with the part of you that holds your beliefs, habits, and imagination.
In short, my approach combines a powerful, forward-looking conversation with the deep, therapeutic relaxation of hypnosis to help you create a new, positive blueprint for your life.

Beyond Solution-Focused: The Tailored Approach
While Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy is my primary modality, I am very aware that every client's journey is unique.
Therefore, I draw upon a range of other proven hypnotherapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) techniques to tailor each session to your specific needs. This flexibility ensures that our work together is as effective as possible, helping you achieve your goals in the most direct and lasting way.
Is Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy right for me?
My chosen method is not just about what I do; it's about what it can do for you. This approach is designed to be:
Positive and Empowering: We focus on your strengths and what is possible, rather than dwelling on negatives or the past.
Effective and Efficient: By focusing on solutions and future goals, we aim to create significant change in a relatively short period of time.
Personalised to Your Needs: I use a flexible toolkit of techniques to ensure your therapy is a perfect fit for you.
What a Typical Session Looks Like
While every session is tailored to you, a typical hypnotherapy session with me follows a clear, simple three-part structure to ensure we make the most of our time together.
Part 1: Solution-Focused Discussion. We'll start with a brief chat to discuss how your week has been and what progress you've made. We'll then work collaboratively to set a clear, positive focus going forward and identify the changes you want to reinforce.
Part 2: The Hypnotic Trance. I will then guide you into a state of deep physical and mental relaxation. This is where we do the therapeutic work, using positive suggestions to help your subconscious mind create new, lasting habits and a more positive mindset.
Part 3: End Session. At the end of the trance state, I will gently guide you back to full awareness. You’ll find yourself feeling calm, relaxed, and with a renewed sense of clarity and focus. We will then confirm the date and time for our next session, ensuring you maintain the momentum needed to achieve your goals and make a lasting change.
What Not to Expect
It's just as important to understand what my practice is not about, as this helps set clear expectations and ensures we're a good fit.
Don't expect to spend a lot of time on regression. Unlike some forms of hypnotherapy that focus on exploring past traumas or memories, my work is forward-focused. We'll concentrate on building a positive future and finding solutions, not dwelling on the past. The only exception to this is with some specific phobias or issues, where we might briefly explore the memory to help you release it in a safe and supportive way.
Don't expect to talk about old problems on repeat. This is a big difference to a lot of other types of talking therapies... While I will, of course, listen and hold a safe space, our sessions are designed to be an active process. We will always work collaboratively to find solutions and guide you towards your goals, rather than simply going over the issues again and again. The things that have happened are in the past... we will focus on creating the future that you want going forward.
