A lot of people I've talked to have asked "How can I tell if Hypnotherapy is right for me?" As you might expect, there is not an easy and simple one or two word answer! For that reason, I've written this blog post for you to read to help you decide whether Hypnotherapy is the right next step for you.

How can I tell if Hypnotherapy is right for me?
Hypnotherapy is a powerful tool for creating lasting, positive change. While it's not a magic cure-all, it is highly effective for a wide range of issues. My practice focuses on helping clients with the following:
Anxiety & Stress: Learn new ways to manage feelings of overwhelm and find a sense of calm.
Confidence & Self-Esteem: Boost your self-belief and unlock your full potential.
Phobias: Overcome specific fears that are holding you back, such as a fear of flying or public speaking.
Essentially, if there's an issue you're ready to change, hypnotherapy can provide the framework to help you do it.
Where can I learn more about hypnotherapy and what to expect?
Just like with anything, Hypnotherapy can come in many different shapes and sizes. Therefore, there is not one simple answer to what hypnotherapy is. However, I can tell you what to expect if you have sessions with me. My practice is primarily built on the principles of Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy.

Who is a Good Candidate for Hypnotherapy?
The most important factor in the success of hypnotherapy isn't the therapist—it's you. You are a great candidate for hypnotherapy if you:
Are ready for change. You have a genuine desire to overcome your issue and are committed to doing the work.
Are open-minded. You don't have to fully "believe" in hypnosis, but you must be willing to engage with the process and give it a try.
Are willing to collaborate. Hypnotherapy is a team effort. You are an active participant, not a passive observer.
Hypnotherapy is not about being weak or "losing control." In fact, it’s quite the opposite. It’s about taking an active, collaborative role in your own healing.

When Hypnotherapy Might Not Be Right For You
Hypnotherapy isn’t the right fit for everyone. It might not be the best choice if you are:
Looking for a quick fix. Hypnotherapy is fast and effective, but it’s not a magic wand. Lasting change requires a commitment from both of us.
Not fully committed to change. You need to have a genuine desire to address your issues for the therapy to be successful.
Dealing with certain severe mental health conditions. Hypnotherapy may not be the primary treatment for these conditions, and you should always consult a medical professional first. Examples of conditions where hypnotherapy may not be the primary or recommended treatment include Psychosis, Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, and Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID).
What if hypnotherapy doesn't work for me?
This is a very common concern. The success of hypnotherapy is a collaborative effort, and the initial consultation is designed to make sure we're a good fit before you commit to anything. For the process to be effective, it requires your commitment and a genuine desire to make a change.
In my experience, almost all clients see some form of positive change when they fully engage with the process. The real risk isn't that it "won't work," but that you'll miss out on the opportunity to create a life you want to live.

What if I can't be hypnotised?
Hypnosis isn't a magical state or something that's done to you; it's a natural state of deep relaxation and focused attention.
Many people have misconceptions about hypnosis due to how it's portrayed in movies or on stage. However, you've likely experienced a hypnotic trance many times in your life. It feels similar to:
Getting so engrossed in a movie that you forget about your surroundings.
Daydreaming while staring out of a window.
Arriving at a destination without remembering the entire drive there.
In a therapeutic setting, a hypnotherapist simply guides you into this natural state of focused attention to help you create positive changes. You remain in control and are fully aware throughout the entire process.
The only thing that can prevent hypnosis is a lack of willingness or an active resistance to the process. My job as your hypnotherapist is to guide you into that relaxed state, ensuring you feel comfortable and safe so you can allow yourself to experience it.

What are the problems, issues, or downsides of Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a very safe and relaxing process, and side effects are extremely rare. The most common "downsides" are often related to the commitment you're making:
Time and Cost: Hypnotherapy is an investment in your well-being. While it requires a financial and time commitment, the long-term benefits of a happier, more confident life often far outweigh the cost.
Emotional Discomfort: When addressing deep-seated issues, it is possible to feel some emotional discomfort. However, this is a normal part of the healing process, and a good hypnotherapist will ensure you feel safe and supported throughout.
Rare, Mild Side Effects: In very rare cases, some clients report feeling slightly dizzy or having a mild headache after a session, but these feelings are temporary.
